Barbara Jean Thompson, daughter of Robert and Mary Collett Fish, was born February 8, 1945, at Port Townsend, Washington. At an early age, her family moved to Fayette where she received her education, graduating from Fayette High School in 1963.
On January 31, 1970, she was united in marriage with Henry Thompson at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. She assisted her husband on the farm for many years. At one time she had worked at Upper Iowa University in Fayette and City Laundering Company in Oelwein.
A very happy moment for Barbara occurred on December 20, 2011, when she was baptized by Rev. Carl Tenney of the Fayette Community Church.
Barbara’s death occurred at her rural Randalia home on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, following a lengthy illness. She was sixty-six years old.
In addition to her husband, Henry of Randalia, she is survived by one son, Brian of Randalia; her mother, Mary Fish of Fayette; two sisters, Patricia Potter of Decorah and Roberta (Everett) Anderson of Waukon; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Marion Rogahn of Fayette.
Barbara was preceded in death by one son, Todd in 1984; her father, Robert Fish; her grandparents; five aunts; and one uncle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Carl Tenney officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette.
